JUST IN: Mzi Khumalo quits as Rand West City mayor
Mzi Khumalo has officially resigned as Rand West City mayor as of today, 22 May.
Mzi Mkumalo officially resigned as Executive Mayor of the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) as of Wednesday, 22 May.
In a statement, Khumalo, who was appointed as the mayor in 2016 said: “I wish to thank the Speaker of Council, councillor Violet Nqina-Mzondeki, the Chief Whip, councillor Mkhuseli Jokazi, and council as a whole for the opportunity of serving the people of Rand West City from the inception of the newly established Municipal Council.

“I want to further extend my gratitude to all Members of Council, councillors, the members of the Mayoral Committee, the Municipal Manager and the Executive Management team in its entirety for expressly working tirelessly in serving the people of Rand West City.”
Khumalo will now be deployed to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
He went on to thank all the residents in the municipality.
“I would like to express my appreciation for the support given by both the Administration and the Council over the past two years or so of my service as Executive Mayor and councillor in this town of choice. Sadly, one leaves office after the unfortunate passing of councillor Mchini Matshogo, whom I had the privilege of knowing in the early 90s.
“We call upon the law enforcement agencies to speedily apprehend the perpetrators of this barbaric act. May his soul rest in peace,” Khumalo said.
