Rand West SPCA struggles to keep doors open

The Rand West SPCA is pleading to members of the public to come to their aid.
Mandy Cattanach, acting manager of the Rand West SPCA said the community’s help is needed urgently as they do not know how long they will be able to keep their doors open.
Mandy said unfortunately, when the going gets tough, especially financially, animals and staff members also bear the brunt.
“Randfontein SPCA receives more and more animals daily because owners who cannot afford to care for their pets are doing the responsible thing by handing them over to the facility,” she said.
However, Mandy said this has increased their needs and she pleaded with the community to assist wherever they can.
“The SPCA not only takes in all unwanted and stray animals, we also investigate all complaints relating to animal abuse and neglect. To investigate these complaints, staff members have to travel many kilometres every month, which means high petrol expenses,” Mandy added.
She said the SPCA needs financial assistance to pay for veterinary services, petrol, salaries and the basic day to day expenses; cat and dog food; carpeting to insulate the cold cement floors; any blankets or bedding; and wooden pallets (bed board).
“We accepts all donations such as household items, clothes, gardening tools, books, etc. If you don’t want it, we will happily take it. We also need assistance from a printing company to have documents printed, as well as signage as the old SPCA signage has disappeared.
“Please Randfontein, the SPCA needs your support to keep its doors open. Any help from the public would be highly appreciated,” Mandy added.
