Get to know a ‘Teiner’ #118 – Higa Chavula
The 118th person in the Herald’s Get to know a Randfonteiner project introduces himself.
Meet our ‘Teiner’ of the week, 31-year-old Higa Chavula, a Malawian who came to South Africa in 2014.
Higa has been working at the Greenhills Circle for four years as factory manager at Oasis Randfontein. He said what makes his day is being around his family and working with customers.
“You would be surprised what can happen in the space of four or five years. People here have really made me feel like I am part of the community despite my nationality. I have also made many friends and have I never felt like an outcast,” Higa said.
Higa added since being in Randfontein, he has had the opportunity to learn a few languages, including Afrikaans, something that he said he would like to perfect one day, but he does finds it quite challenging.
“It was a really good life choice to come to Randfontein. The town and its people have taught me a lot about opening up and dealing with different people,” Higa said.
He said among some of his future plans are to raise his children in a place like Randfontein, because he believes that they can become the best they can be as South African citizens.
