Noah’s Ark reaches out to needy kids
NGO filled the tummies of needy children of Zenzele through their feeding scheme.
Needy children of the Zenzele informal settlement recently benefited from Noah’s Ark feeding scheme.
According to Mathapelo Lesenyego, one of the Noah’s Ark founders, this was an act of kindness from the NGO without any sponsorship.
“Love and compassion are what drove them to treat the kids. As women and most of all Christian women, we must do good and help our fellow human beings who are less privileged.”
The Noah’s Ark Feeding Scheme is based at the Faith Mission Apostolic Church in Zenzele.
Mathapelo added that most of the kids travel a long distance to school on an empty stomach.
The NGO also recently received blankets from the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day team that they donated to the elderly in Mohlakeng and Zenzele.
“We are also reaching out to the Glenharvie community. The blankets represent one step to show our work and we are very thankful to the 67 Blankets international movement.”
They are currently preparing for their annual Secret Scarf Mission, fondly known as the #SSS. KnitWits for Madiba around the country have been knitting and crocheting beautiful scarves to distribute on 9 July.
Now in its sixth year, this nation-wide initiative has proved to be hugely successful, whereby thousands of scarves are draped around trees and poles and for passers-by to take. A note that says, “I am not lost, if you are cold and need me, please take me” is attached to each scarf.
These hand-made scarves are made with love to keep people warm in winter and are always distributed in July in celebration of Nelson Mandela’s birthday.
Anyone is welcome to help tie the scarves to trees and poles at the various venues. There is still some time to make and donate scarves, and a local ambassador can be contacted via the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day website at https://www.67blankets.co.za.
