• Special Women’s Day event at Connies in Wilbotsdal

The Connie Mulder Centre has 120 female residents and big plans for their Women’s Day celebrations on 9 August. “Although our centre is partially state-subsidised, we rely on a number of fundraising events to alleviate the strain on the budget. We also place a lot of emphasis on decorating the venue, arranging for an appropriate guest speaker and showering the female residents with items of food and gifts,” said Gordon Henney, chief executive officer. He said that he is hoping that the community will contribute to this wonderful event by donating items of food. • Community outreach drive in Toekomsrus

A few Gospel recording artists in partnership with 90.7 RainbowFM have joined forces and will be handing out soup, bread and blankets to the less privileged from 10am in Diamond Street, Toekomsrus. According to Angelo Vaaltyn of Levites United, churches and community leaders will also be praying for people and social challenges including violence, women abuse and drug abuse. • Women’s Day at coffee and gift shop in Krugersdorp
Celebrate Women’s Day at Die Voete van Jesus Coffee and Gift Shop in Monument, Krugersdorp from 9am. There will be demonstrations by professionals on quick and easy make-up applications, a motivational talk on womanhood, a new skincare range and how to give your image a boost without breaking the bank. • Totalsports Women’s Race 2019 in Johannesburg
For the first time since the event’s inception in 2001, South Africa’s largest Women’s Day Celebration will be hosted on the same day in three major cities (Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban). This year the Totalsports Women’s Race will boast a combined prize purse of R123 600. An annual Women’s Day celebration, the Totalsports Women’s Race encourages athletes to unite and run in support of PinkDrive because they are #StrongerTogether.
