Woman escapes hijacking in CBD

Woman warns public of hijackers on the prowl in the Randfontein CBD.

A 59-year-old woman escaped an attempted hijacking in the Randfontein CBD during the afternoon of Monday, 19 August.

She was, however, robbed of her tablet.

Koeksie Pruis, who was on her way back into town from Westonaria, said she had to fight off two men while at an intersection. She said she was saved by her safety belt, as one of the robbers tried pulling her out of her vehicle.

“When I stopped at an intersection to wait for the green light, someone came from behind and opened my door. He pulled it open, but I also pulled it back. He shouted ‘Get out of the f***g car!’ While this was going on, another man opened my passenger door and took my tablet,” Pruis said.

Pruis said during the scuffle, she managed to grab hold of one of the robbers, but they both eventually got away.

“It all happened so quickly, but I believe they were after my car.”

She added that a number of youngsters often loiter in that area, and said, “I believe that place is a hot spot, because this wasn’t the first incident I have experienced”.
