#ThrowbackThursday – 9 October 1987

The Herald goes back, way back, to 9 October 1987, for this week’s #ThrowbackThursday.

It’s #ThrowbackThursday and the Herald went back in time to 9 October 1987 to see what was in the news.

On page 11 of that week’s edition, the Herald published a story with headline Cataract need not cause blindness. It was mentioned in the article that the high incidence of blindness caused by cataracts can be brought down by early detection, removal through surgery and post-surgical use of prescription lenses.

The Herald has since caught up with Dr Laila Raman-Abdulla, FC Ophth(SA), an ophthalmic surgeon from Lenmed Randfontein Private Hospital and Leratong Hospital, to find out how far the procedure has advanced.
