Cement company makes big donation to local school
PPC cement made a massive donation of R22 500 to a school in Mohlakeng.
Phahama Secondary School was presented with a cheque for R22 500 by PPC Cement in an initiative aimed at buying sanitary towels for the girl learners on Friday, 11 October.
Kevin Odendaal of PPC Cement said that upon establishing that the school was one of the needy in the community, it was listed as a beneficiary.
“We believe in partnering with the community and as a team decided to help a school in need,” said Kevin.
He further explained that funds were raised through a golf day.
Sandile Siko, principal of the school, thanked the people behind the initiative and said the donation will go a long way, not only restoring the dignity of the girls at the school, but also by also improving learner attendance.
“Many learners are unable to come to school because they do not have pads. A school is a community centre, and as such, we should encourage the children to come to school, because apart from learning, they can be assisted in many other ways.
“As we are striving to improve our matric pass rate, we believe that partnerships like this will help make that dream come true,” Siko said.
