Benny Mohlabeng, Regional Commander of the Randfontein Fire and Rescue Services confirmed the Pick n Pay Greenhills fire has been brought under control.
“At this stage only the roof caught fire. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined and investigated.”
The Herald reported earlier that residents were advised to avoid the area and that workers were evacuated following a fire and smoke at the Pick n Pay Greenhills on Wednesday afternoon, 6 November.
According to Herald journalist Tumi Riba, one person sustained burn wounds to their hands while six people had to be transported to hospital for smoke inhalation.
Pick n Pay Greenhills told the Herald on scene that they will provide comment at a later stage.
