‘I want to spread the Word of God’ – Mohlakeng gospel artist

'I want my message about God be heard by people everywhere' – gospel singer.

Meet Randfontein’s rising star of gospel music, Bhambatha Nhlapo, who said he is grateful to have been brought up in the humble streets of Mohlakeng.

According to Bhambatha, the streets shaped him into the kind of artist he is today.

The 41-year-old, who is passionate about the genre, said he was introduced to gospel music by his late aunt, Sarah Menke Nhlapo.

“She helped me discover my talent,” Bhambatha said.

“I fell in love with it and started to excel in it. I then joined a gospel group called One Big Family led and mentored by Andile Bebula.

I started preaching and singing in trains travelling between Randfontein and Johannesburg.

“I also had the opportunity to perform at the Ingoma Gospel Awards but, what I am most proud of today is that I am a recording artist,” he added.

He said his love of the music has grown in the past few years, but believes there is still more to be done.

“On 29 November I released my hit single titled No Other God. I am very excited because at the end of January 2020 the video will be aired on gospel channels across the country,” Bhambatha said.

He is also involved in Shumba Media to teach upcoming generations to sing.

Asked about his future aspirations, he said he wanted to become one of the most renowned artists in the industry.

“I want to spread the Word of God to people everywhere.”
