WANTED: Rape victim IDs one of her attackers

One of two suspects allegedly involved in the rape of a woman in her early 30s has been identified.

The Carletonville Family Violence and Child Protection Unit (FCS) released an ID kit of one of two suspects being sought after a 32-year-old woman had been raped in Zuurbekom.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the victim was walking from a local tavern when she was accosted by two men.

They allegedly dragged her to an open veld and took turns to rape her. They were later picked up by a black VW Golf which sped off. They left the victim there,” Lefakane said.

The victim was able to identify one of the suspects by means of an ID kit.

“He is said to be between 41 and 45 year of age, has a dark complexion, is short and well built. He was speaking Tsonga and said to be very aggressive,” Lefakane said.

Lieutenant Colonel Andile Moshani, the acting Bekkersdal Police station commander condemned violence against women and children, and urged people to avoid walking alone late at night, especially in secluded areas.

Anyone who might have information that could lead to the apprehension of this suspect may contact the Bekkersdal Police on 011 755 8040 or Contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Alternatively, contact the investigating officer, detective Constable Emmanuel Ramabele on 082 778 9048.
