3 suspects still at large after foiled cigarette robbery

A foiled cigarette robbery in Homelake ended in a deadly shootout, leaving two suspects dead and three others on the run as police officially launch a manhunt.

Police have confirmed that two suspects were shot and killed, while another three remain at large following an attempted cigarette delivery robbery in Homelake on Thursday, August 13.

The incident occurred at the corner of 12th Street and Park N Street.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said five armed suspects approached the delivery vehicle and threatened the driver before forcing him to open the rear of the vehicle.

“The suspects allegedly loaded five boxes of cigarettes, while two confronted the security personnel escorting the delivery. A shootout then ensued, leaving two suspects fatally wounded at the scene. The remaining three suspects allegedly fled in a white Nissan NP200,” Sibeko said.

Police are investigating cases of armed robbery and murder and have launched a manhunt for the three suspects.
