Welcome to our new intern

A third-year journalism student from TUT is working at the Herald as an intern this year.

I am Zintle Thubeni from Carletonville in the far west of Johannesburg, and I will be doing my practicals at Caxton Local Media’s Randfontein Herald local newspaper.

I recently moved to Greenhills, Randfontein and am currently enrolled at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) as a third-year journalism student.

I chose journalism to become the voice of the voiceless and be the light of my community. I want to be the one telling people what is going on in their surroundings. I want to grow big in this industry and I am always willing to learn.

Journalism is broad, with many opportunities; for example, if you fail in broadcasting you can take another route, such as print or photography.

I have always been a fan of pen and paper; I used to write poems and make up stories in primary school. I was the best reader. I am passionate about people; I like engaging with people – that is, my community – although I may be a little shy sometimes. One of my weaknesses is stage fright.

I am honoured to be part of the Herald team and I am looking forward to working with the Randfontein community. I wish to earn your trust and be a memorable journalist. I want to be a watchdog of the community – reliable and honourable.

You can reach out to me on my email at zintle@caxton.co.za or contact me on 073 736 2068/ 079 482 4930.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
