Young lovebirds reveal their secret

The couple said they stand by certain principles.

Thapelo Mokoena and his wife Victoria, said their relatively young marriage has taught them a lot about the longevity of a marital union.

Like many other couples, these young lovebirds said they would be rekindling their love this Valentine’s Day on Friday, 14 February.

However, in the exclusive interview with the Herald, the couple set the record straight, saying that it takes more than chocolates or a cute offering to appease a partner. They believe that it takes a spiritual connection to make love work.

“Our bond is strong because we do things together; that is what we love about our relationship – we are a strong union,” Thapelo said.

Thapelo said when he saw Victoria for the first time, he knew right away she would be his. The couple met at a local church on 29 October 2012.

Thapelo went on to say his wish was confirmed when he got to know his then girlfriend better.

“She possesses all the qualities that I am attracted to in a women. She is loving, kind and a very compassionate person,” he said.

Victoria, who could not keep her hands off her husband during the interview said, “What I love about him is he is not just a man of stature, but he also has a big heart and invaluable qualities, proving he is my soul mate”.

The couple said they stand by certain principles.

“We respect each other and always make sure that we communicate when a decision has to be taken,” Victoria said.

Praising his wife, Thapelo said, “Other than the fact that she is beautiful, I am always amazed by how kind she is towards other people.”

Victoria added she also likes Thapelo’s funny side and cooking skills.

“When I am with him, I always feel at ease. Sometimes I feel I am with my best friend because our connection transcends everything,” Victoria said.

Asked about how they kept their young love together, the couple said every relationship can last long when trust is deeply embedded.
