A 47-year-old woman and her 15-year-old daughter appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 24 February for allegedly beating a man to death.
Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said the two females attacked the 25-year-old man after finding him wandering in their yard during the early hours of Saturday morning, 22 February.

“They allegedly dragged the unconscious man to a nearby veld where he later succumbed to his injuries. The following morning his body was recovered by the community who alerted the police,” Lefakane said.
She added that after the community learned that the two women had attacked the deceased, police had to rescue them before an angry mob could assault them for killing the man.
Lieutenant Colonel Andile Moshani, the acting Bekkersdal Police station commander urged members of the community to refrain from taking the law into their hands.
“Those who do so will be brought to book because there is no excuse for mob justice,” Moshani added.
