Korekile Home for Cerebral Palsied Children in Simunye held a memorial service for the 20 children who had passed away between 2017 and 2018 while in their care.

Motlilisi Sepanya, a professional nurse and the coordinator, said parents were also invited to share memories of their loved ones on Saturday, 29 February.

“We are doing this because this was a home for them, they were brought here by their parents as they had special needs,” Motsisi said.

Motlilisi added that among those who died were some who had lived beyond what was predicted.

According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common motor disability in childhood. Population-based studies from around the world report prevalence estimates of CP ranging from 1,5 to more than 4 per 1 000 live births or children of a defined age range.”

“We wanted to reach out to the families and say to them that their children will always be in our hearts. We want them to know that we truly care for them and we still care for them,” Motlilisi said.

During the memorial services prayers and hymns were sung.

“Even beyond death, we want them to know that we still care for them and their families,” Motlilisi said.
