Randwest SPCA robbed during lockdown

Dog food as well as keys to the cages at the Randwest SPCA stolen – trainee inspector.

The Rand West SPCA is saddened by a break-in at their premises, allegedly on Sunday, 5 April.

According to Rene van Straten, trainee inspector at the Rand West SPCA, they arrived at work on Monday morning, 6 April and found it difficult to open the office door.

“When the alarm would not disarm we realised something was not right.”

Rene added that they assumed that when the intruders forced open the door from the outside, the alarm went off and they got a fright.

“The alarm was damaged, and they took all the cage keys, as well as a 50kg bag of dog food.”

The alarm was vandalised as well.

They now fear that it was only a trial run, and that the thugs will be back later to finish the job.

“We are very worried about the safety of our staff living on the premises”, she stated.
