As you drive past the Randfontein CBD on the R28, Main Reef Road and even Kenneth Avenue in Greenhills, you notice that the streets now resemble scenes from a post-apocalyptic film. With businesses having stopped operating, it seems there is no life in town …

But then you see a lonely figure carrying groceries, and it gives you a bit of hope that there is indeed some life left in Randfontein.

You may also see a few vehicles with only the mask-wearing driver and no passengers.

Since lockdown started two weeks ago, life has been put on hold for many.

The Herald has taken the pictures below to show its readers what the town looks during the national lockdown, while most of its residents are heeding the President’s call to stay at home to stop the coronavirus from spreading.
