Mapogo’s latest crime report

'Criminals made it clear that whilst you are in lockdown, they continue or increase their day to day jobs' – Herman Coetzee from Mapogo.

Mapogo A Mathamaga Security in Randfontein released its crime report for the period Monday, 6 April to Monday, 13 April.

According to Herman Coetzee, Operations Manager at Mapogo, the past week has seen a massive spike in crime.

Coetzee made it very clear that commercial properties such as supermarkets selling food, cigarettes and liquor had been targeted during the past week, with four burglaries being reported in the Randfontein CBD. He confirmed that commercial properties in industrial areas have also been targeted, with two incidents of common theft and one of burglary being reported in Aureus.

“One gate-motor theft and one theft of a motor vehicle were reported in Greenhills and Helikon Park respectively, and we also attended to a very sad case of a rape in Rikasrus during the past week,” said Coetzee.

He added that the increase in crime could be expected as people are running out of food, liquor and cigarettes because of the lockdown.
