‘Schools now an easy target’ – EPR warns after two local schools were targeted

Two schools being targeted as well as domestic violence among nine incidents that occurred this past weekend.

EPR West Rand released its crime report for the period Friday, 24 July to Monday, 27 July.

Johan Krogh, General Manager at EPR said at least nine crime incidents had been reported for their client base during that period.

Of concern was that two local schools were targeted.

With schools closed again, it would appear that they have become an easy target for criminals. Over the weekend, two incidents were reported at two schools in Bekkersdal,” he warned.

In addition, Krogh said, three incidents of theft were reported in Elandsvlei, Greenhills and Aureus respectively; and there was one business break-in incident in Aureus; one residential break-in in Hillside; a robbery on Main Reef Road; and a domestic violence incident in Helikon Park.

“We urge schools to be pro-active and vigilant. Please move expensive electronic equipment from classrooms to a place of safety whilst schools are closed,” he appealed.
