Three arrests made in drugs operation

Three arrested in the Bekkersdal Policing precinct for possession of dagga and different kinds of drugs.

Bekkersdal Police made three arrests as part of an operation to target drug dealing in and around the Bekkersdal and Simunye areas during the weekend.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the suspects aged 26, 34 and 44 years were arrested in three different areas around Simunye for being in possession of dagga and different kinds of drugs which were later seized.

She explained the Bekkersdal Police conducted disruptive crime prevention operations during the weekend to try and reduce the alarming number of drug related cases around the Bekkersdal/ Simunye after drugs was classified as one of the crime generators specifically on residential and business burglaries.

The main focus of the operation was those who were allegedly reported to be dealing in drugs and dagga. The intelligently driven operations led by the Vispol Commander Lieutenant Colonel Andile Moshani resulted in positive successes when they arrested three suspects.

“All suspects will be charged and are expected to appear before the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.”

Colonel Phumelele Matamela, the Bekkersdal Police station commander applauded the members for a job well done and extended her gratitude to the officer who took part in both the operations ensuring that those who are committing crimes around the Bekkersdal policing precinct were dealt with harshly.

She also thanked the community members who entrusted the police with the successful information.
