Another 200 plus arrests in West Rand District as operations continue

Police across the West Rand District were involved in another operation which yielded numerous arrests.

More than 200 arrests were made during yet another Okae Molao police operation held on Thursday, 10 September throughout the West Rand District.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the West Rand District and Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, those arrested were linked to a variety of crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, business and house robberies, theft, possession of stolen property, motor vehicle theft, possession of illegal substances, illegal mining, malicious damage to property, arson, fraud, perjury and culpable homicide.

Lefakane added that police also seized alcohol being sold illegally at a trading store without a liquor licence.

“During the operation, the members made a breakthrough when they arrested a 33-year-old suspect, and recovered six stolen and hijacked vehicles and a minibus,” Lefakane added.

Colonel Christelle Booysen, the parade commander of the operation said, “September is observed as Police Safety Month, therefore we expect everyone to be operationally ready to bring all to book who are on the wrong side of the law.”

Major General Fred Kekana, the West Rand District Police Commissioner commended everyone, including the stakeholders, for their joint efforts to eradicate crime.

We must strive continuously towards improving our services with integrity, and render a responsible and effective service of high quality accessible to all. Thank you all for the hard work,” Kekana said.

Lefakane said all suspects are expected to appear before their respective Magistrates Court’s soon.
