Restoring dignity in girls of Thuto Lehakwe Secondary

A total of 180 packets of sanitary pads were donated to the girls of Thuto Lehakwe Secondary School.

Management of Thuto Lehakwe Secondary in Mohlakeng donated 180 packets of sanitary pads to high school girl learners on Wednesday, 14 October.

According to Ntombikayise Shibambo, school spokesperson and deputy principal, the aim of the gesture was to restore dignity among the girls of the school, and provide them with the much-needed items.

Some tend to miss school because they do not have these items.”

Fikile Sondela Farrow, a community leader and coordinator of the donation through her organisation called Impumelolo Wings thanked the Grey Foundation for being a sponsor to help those who are less fortunate.

“We hope that this will help empower the young ladies,” Fikile said.

She added that when they are deprived of sanitary pads, even their self-esteem is affected.

They might end up feeling inferior and asking themselves why they are at such a disadvantage. So we are doing this so that every girl child can know that she is worthy,” Fikile added.
