Nine people injured, elderly woman critical in head-on crash

'A woman in her 60s sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition' – ER24.

Nine people were left injured following a head-on collision between a bakkie and light motor vehicle on Flower Street in Carletonville on Thursday afternoon, 22 October.

ER24 paramedics along with other services arrived on the scene to find the two damaged vehicles in the middle of the road.

According to Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, several people were found lying around the scene.

Medics assessed the patients and found that a woman in her 60s had numerous injuries and was in a critical condition, while the remaining seven patients had moderate injuries.

“The patients were treated for their injuries and the critically injured woman was provided with advanced life support interventions before she was airlifted to a nearby hospital by a private medical helicopter. The remaining patients were transported to various hospitals by ambulances.”

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
