Finsbury rapper on the rise
I'm glad that I have made it this far – 18-year-old Finsbury rapper after going a rough patch in life and losing his mother.
Sphelele Mkhwanazi, aka Cigy95, is a new rapper on the block with big dreams.
The 18-year-old, who is completing his Grade 12 at Randfontein Secondary School (RSS), said he is a rapper more than anything – something he takes seriously.
I’ve been doing this since the tender age of 10 and never looked back,” Cigy95 said.
He said he felt proud that he has made a name for himself in the music industry over the last few years, which has also earned him respect among his peers.
“I’ve recorded my demo when I was just 14 years old. I now have more than 10 songs under my belt. I really can’t wait to release more music after I’m done with school.”
Cigy95 also spoke about having gone through a rough patch in his personal life, explaining that the loss of his mother was hard to bear; but he is thankful that he didn’t lose sight of the bigger picture.
“Since then, I have been living with my brother, who also takes care of me. Despite the ordeal, I’m glad that I have made it this far,” he said.
After finishing school, Cigy95 intends to make his dream a reality, because he believes that through rap, he can contribute a lot to society.
Although my music is diverse, it’s essentially hip hop. I’m a conscious rapper but a modern one with modern instruments to inspire those going through any kind of hardship,” he added.
