Music helped him cope with his mental health issues

"I would say that I was born to entertain through music and that is why I embrace my God-given talent and gift."

Tebogo Harry Kganana, 28, aka Harry Fine$$e said music helped him cope with mental health issues.

He got into music at the age of 15 and classifies his music as hip hop, RnB, TrapSoul and Afro beat.

Harry was inspired by his late brother to start writing music.

“My brother would always sing along to Graig David’s songs and write his own lyrics to the songs’ instrumentals,” said Harry.

He added that he looks up to Canadian rapper, Drake, because of his diverse sound, and because he managed to stay consistent ever since he started his music career.

According to Harry, the inspiration for his music comes from his personal experiences in life – from the memories that he creates with the people in his life, the hardships and the good times.

“I would say that I was born to entertain through music, and that is why I embrace my God-given talent and gift,” he said.

He has released 12 songs in the form of an EP (Extended Play) project.

“The one song that I enjoyed working on the most is the title song called Phindi no Thembi, which is available on Spotify and other online streaming platforms.”

Harry said that he was inspired by his late mother who was Xhosa, as well as two of his doctors, to write the song. “I recorded it in a very short space of time after I finished producing the instrumental at a friend’s studio in Swanieville.”

According to Harry, the song is about two of his doctors who inspired the theme of the song by supporting him when he needed help the most.

“I suffered from mental health issues and these doctors both suggested that I consider becoming a sort of ambassador and motivational speaker, mainly advocating and addressing mental health issues. The song fits as a work of charity and should it go big and receive the recognition it deserves, then the proceeds will go to mental health charities,” Harry concluded.
