One of the West Rand’s finest DJs
Reuben Hlungwane, aka Lord Resto, said even with limited resources, nothing could stand in his way of producing good quality music.
Not even limited resources could stand in young DJ Reuben Lord Resto Hlungwane’s way to produce music.
The 29-year-old, who is a house DJ said it was in 2007 when he learned how to mix and produce music. This was all thanks to his big brother, David Hlungwane, who is also a music producer.
“Since I mastered the skill, I’ve managed to make a name for myself and played at parties and weddings ever since. I only took the profession seriously in 2010 when I performed at tournament gigs,” Lord Resto said.
The youngster believes, however, that he is not yet where he wants to be and aims to impress the world as a DJ, not just here in South Africa.
“Seeing people like DJ Black Coffee and The Scorpion and where they are now has shown me that nothing is impossible. These guys inspire me immensely and I would love to brush up my talent and become a world-renowned artist,” he added.
Once he has made it to the very top, he vows to give back to youngsters who have similar dreams. For the time being, he considers himself to be a small-time artist and likely to encounter challenges.
“There are those who do it for the money and fame, not necessarily appreciating music as an art. These type of artists can stand in one’s way. I, however, want to contribute to the music industry in a positive way, be it to uplift or inspire.
“Some find it easier to get into the industry if you know the right people in the right places, others don’t and have to work harder. Nowadays it’s all about how popular you are,” Lord Resto said.
Despite all these hurdles, Lord Resto said he is driven to produce the kind of music that has substance and that will unite people from across the globe in peace and harmony.
