Heavy traffic, one injured when two trucks collide on R28

Traffic towards Randfontein was heavier than usual as a result of the accident, but that traffic officers at the scene were making efforts to divert the traffic – Rand West City Traffic Chief.

One person was injured and admitted to hospital after two trucks collided on the R28 between Krugersdorp and Randfontein in Uitvalfontein at about 7am on Tuesday morning, 8 December.

According to Kenny Mampondo, Chief of the Rand West City Traffic Department, the driver of one of the trucks rammed into the rear end of the other truck, which had been standing there since it broke down yesterday due to mechanical failure.

The driver thought the truck was moving, and by the time he realised that the truck was stationary, it was too late for him to attempt to stop.

“The driver alleged that he saw the traffic light was green for him to proceed, and thought that the truck in front of him was in motion, only to ram into it; resulting in injuring one person,” said Mampondo, adding that the another person who was sleeping during the crash escaped injury.
