Four cops among 93 arrested during Operation Okae Molao

At least 93 people, among them cops, were arrested during another Operation Okae Molao on the far West Rand – most for assault GBH and murder.

A total of 93 suspects were arrested during another Operation Okae Molao held in Fochville and Carletonville on the far West Rand on Thursday, 4 March.

Among them were four police officers who were arrested in connection with two murders in Khutsong earlier this year.

According to Captain Eddie Boboko, West Rand District Police spokesperson, offenders were arrested for crimes including murder and attempted murder (six); assault with GBH (20); common assault (4); robbery (three); rape (seven); housebreaking and theft (nine); possession of ammunition (one); and possession of dagga and illegal substances (four).

Police arrested the owners of unlicensed liquor outlets as well as illegal immigrants; and other suspects for fraud; pointing a firearm; contravention of protection order; possession of a stolen motor vehicle; possession of a stolen truck; and failing to wear a mask in a public place,” Boboko said.

During the roadblock 60 fines to the value of R54 400 were issued, and all arrested suspects will appear in their respective magistrates’ courts soon,” Bokobo said.

Major General Fred Kekana, the West Rand District Police Commissioner, applauded the police and law-enforcement agencies who have shown an unrelenting commitment to keeping communities safe by bringing offenders to book.

Kekana also urged the community to stay home during curfew, wear their masks when out in public, and comply with the National Disaster Management Act regulations.
