Water upgrade meets scepticism in Mohlakeng

Key water and sanitation infrastructure were handed over by government aimed at improving basic services for residents.

New water and sanitation interventions have been handed over to residents of Zenzele informal settlement and the Mohlakeng community.

On August 10, Minister of Water and Sanitation Pemmy Majodina, Deputy Minister David Mahlobo, Deputy Minister of Human Settlements Thandi Mahambehlala and Rand West City Executive Mayor William Matsheke visited the area for the handover.

Completed low-flush household sanitation systems were handed over in Zenzele, while a new Decentralised Water Supply System was officially handed over at Lukhanyo High School in Mohlakeng.

The projects were delivered in partnership with the Rand Water Foundation Board and Rand Water leadership, with the collaboration supporting the implementation of the community-based water and sanitation interventions.

The upgrades are aimed at improving access to basic services and addressing water and sanitation challenges faced by residents, while providing more dignified and sustainable solutions for the community.

One resident, Lindi Masemola, expressed scepticism about the timing of the projects, suggesting they were being implemented ahead of the upcoming elections.
