Madelene du Preez, Patriotic Alliance’s (PA) local elections candidate councillor for Ward 4 recently answered the Herald’s questions regarding the upcoming elections.

4. Why should the community vote for you?
I am a go-getter. When I start something I finish it. I will see to my community’s safety. Will see to cleaner streets. I will see to it that the children get their education. Arrange a training centre for unemployment people to be educated and be able to start their own business, and set up an exhibition centre for all local talents to sell their creations.
5. If you were elected, what would you focus on?
I will focus on children getting back to school, because they’re the future. I will improve safety for the elderly, who get robbed daily, and will get Community Policing Forum (CPF) and security companies involved to keep crime under control and get rid of all drugs, as well beggars that make it unsafe for the community.
Will hold myself accountable and will follow through to get it done, to make Randgate a safe and pleasant haven to be in.
6. What are you going to do differently during your time in office?
I will improve communication, especially about ongoing projects, and give people all the latest development from meetings held, and I will optimise that communication by using social media and local media. I will not make empty promises.
Will work around the clock to clean up the messy streets; street lights are not working; water and dirt are running down the roads; drains are blocked.
6. Outside your council duties how are you involved in community?
I work in church with kids, I have assisted with a soup kitchen, collecting for charity and assisting with fundraising for families that lost everything to get back on their feet.
7. What past experiences make you uniquely qualified for this role?
I’ve worked in retail for 31 years, therefore I’ve got skills that I think will help me in this job. I am also someone who can manage, who’s honest and has integrity.
