Housebreaking still a concern in Randfontein – Mapogo crime report

Housebreaking and theft dominate the list of crime incidents revealed by Mapogo for the period from July 11 to 17.

It was a relatively busy week for Mapogo A Mathamaga Security in Randfontein.

Operations manager at Mapogo, Ben Willemse said seven incidents were reported for the period between Monday, July 11 and Sunday, July 17.

A breakdown of the incidents:

• Tuesday, July 12 at 19:50 – Housebreaking and theft on Sugarbird Street, Helikon Park: Mapogo responded to a panic alarm signal received from the premises. On arrival contact was made with the owner who confirmed that there was a break-in during the day. Perpetrators gained entry through the side gate and forced open the front door and security gate, and stole household items and fled the scene.

• Wednesday, July 13 at 02:35 – Housebreaking and theft on Winterberg Road, Finsbury: Perpetrators forced open the front sliding door whilst the owner was on the premises. They stole a television set and speakers, and fled the scene.

• Thursday, July 14 at 08:53 – Attempted motor vehicle theft and arrest in Greenhills Circle, Greenhills: Perpetrator attempted to steal a vehicle from the premises and was caught by Mapogo response officers when he attempted to flee the scene.

• Friday, July 15 at 01:20 – Attempted break-in on Homestead Avenue, Homelake: Perpetrators attempted to gain entry into the premises through a side window. When the alarm activated they fled the scene.

• Friday, July 15 at 06:30 – Attempted motor vehicle theft on Van Riebeeck Road, Homelake: When perpetrators attempted to steal a vehicle from the premises the guard spotted them. They assaulted him and fled the scene.

• Friday, July 15 at 11:25 – Housebreaking and theft on Tulbach Avenue, Culemborg Park: Perpetrators gained entry onto the premises by climbing over the gate and making a hole in the roof of the storeroom. It is not known what was stolen from the premises.

• Saturday, July 16 at 01:00 – Housebreaking and theft on Main Reef Road, Randfontein: Perpetrators gained entry onto the premises by breaking a window at the office. They stole unknown items from the premises and fled the scene.
