Man found shot dead inside idling car
Police say the 33-year-old victim had stopped his vehicle to drop off a hitchhiker when he was accosted by the suspect, who fired two shots.
Bekkersdal Police are investigating a case of murder after the body of a 33-year-old man was found with a bullet wound to his head inside an idling car next to the corner of R559 and the N12 in Bekkersdal.
This is according to spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane who said that the incident occurred after 15:00 on Saturday, April 29.

According to Lefakane, the victim is from Fochville and a manhunt for the suspect(s) has since been launched.
“It is alleged that the deceased was driving his silver-grey Toyota Camry and travelling from Potchefstroom to Johannesburg on the N12 when the incident occurred. He allegedly stopped his vehicle next to the corner of R559 and N12 to drop off a hitchhiker when he was accosted by an unknown man.

“The suspect walked towards the driver’s side of the vehicle and fired two shots at the victim. It is believed that the suspect then ran to a white Toyota Conquest with no registration number that was parked not far from the scene,” Lefakane said.
She added that the driver died on the scene and the motive for the shooting is currently unknown, but investigations are underway.
