One robber was shot and killed while another two were injured. Six were arrested following a high-speed chase and shootout with cops in Kagiso. They are said to be involved in more than 10 serious crimes, including break-ins across the province.

Six suspects linked to over 10 robberies and break-ins across Gauteng, including incidents in the East Rand, Johannesburg North and the West Rand, were arrested in Kagiso last week.

According to Gauteng Provincial Police’s spokesperson Dimakatso Sello, this follows an operation involving the Gauteng Traffic Police’s Airwing Unit, members from the police’s Counter-Intelligence Investigation head office, the Gauteng Multi-Disciplinary Tracking Team, Gauteng Police, the police’s Anti-Gang Unit and Connect Bad Boyz Security.

Police intelligence revealed the suspects had committed a robbery at a church in Florida, and when intercepting the vehicle, law enforcement attempted to stop the suspects, who immediately fled, leading to a high-speed chase and shootout.

“The pursuit ended when their vehicle collided with a fence and embankment in Kagiso,” Sello said.

As a result of the operation, six suspects were apprehended. Further, one was fatally wounded while the other two sustained injuries. Three unlicensed firearms and ammunition were also seized.

Sello also confirmed that a large quantity of high-value sound systems was recovered from the robbers’ vehicle.

The robbers were apprehended on the scene.
