Myburgh Foundation joins police in West Rand roadblock operation
Volunteers team up with multi-agency law enforcement units along Randfontein Road to bolster community safety.
More than 40 suspects were arrested when the Myburgh Foundation Emergency Support Team (EST) joined forces with police and provincial authorities during an Operation Shanela roadblock on Randfontein Road in the West Rand on Saturday, October 24.
The multidisciplinary operation focused on law enforcement and public safety, resulting in several arrests for various offences.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the roadblock resulted in the arrest of 27 people for driving under the influence of alcohol, eight people suspected of being in the country illegally, and 12 suspects for possession of drugs. One suspect was also arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle.
The Myburgh Foundation EST assisted law enforcement agencies during the operation, contributing to the collaborative effort to address crime and promote safer communities.
Operation Shanela targets crime hot spots
Myburgh Foundation founder Randy Christian said the joint effort demonstrated the importance of cooperation between community stakeholders and law enforcement in the interest of public safety.
“We commend everyone involved for going above and beyond to serve and protect our communities,” he added.
The participation of community-based organisations such as the Myburgh Foundation EST highlights the role that partnerships can play in supporting law enforcement operations and strengthening public safety across the West Rand.
