According to Gauteng Department of Community Safety spokesperson, Ofentse Morwane, 67 suspects were arrested in Mohlakeng and Westonaria alone, 40 of those emanated from Operation Shanela.

“Suspects were arrested for cases which include possession of suspected stolen property, contravention of the Immigration Act, drunk driving and assault, among others. Almost a thousand people and 532 vehicles were searched in the district,” said Morwane.

“The department commends the law enforcement officials for their continued efforts in collaborating and making these arrests.

Drinking and driving, public drinking, possession of drugs and dealing in drugs are a sore thorn that officials are continuously dealing with decisively.”

The operation was carried out by the Gauteng Traffic Police, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, police and their Flying Squad.
