395 arrested in crackdown, 45 on West Rand
A total of 41 people were arrested for drunk driving on the West Rand, as part of nearly 400 arrests made across the province during high-impact operations.
Recently, a series of targeted operations conducted under various policing precincts led to the arrest of over 395 suspects across the province, including 45 on the West Rand involved in criminal activities.

According to Gauteng Traffic Police spokesperson Sello Maremane, the operations were conducted by them and Gauteng Traffic Wardens, in collaboration with various law enforcement agencies.
The aim to conduct high-impact operations across the province is part of ongoing efforts to reduce crime and ensure safer communities.”
On the West Rand, 45 suspects were arrested for various offences during Operation Shanela. These include 41 for drunk driving and four for possession of drugs. The operations covered the Mohlakeng, Merafong, Krugersdorp and Fochville areas.
To add, Maremane said in the Sedibeng District, 47 people were arrested for drunk driving, 19 for immigration-related offences, 20 for possession of drugs, and three for assault. The City of Johannesburg recorded 32 arrests during law enforcement operations, including 13 for contravening the Immigration Act, eight for possession of drugs, and others for drinking and driving, assault, and interfering with police duties. Two stolen vehicles were also recovered during operations in Protea, Eikenhof, Diepkloof, Eldorado Park, and Braamfischerville.
“The Gauteng Department of Community Safety commends the continued collaboration between law enforcement agencies in executing these crime prevention operations.
The department remains committed to intensifying these efforts to disrupt criminal networks, recover stolen property, and bring offenders to justice,” concluded Maremane.
Operations were also executed in Evaton, Sharpeville, Vereeniging and De Deur.
