Perpetrators still at large after CIT bombing

Randfontein CBD — Residents are warned to avoid Randfontein Station Mall after a cash-in-transit (CIT) van was bombed this morning, June 9.

CPF chairperson Ruan Sheppard explained the perpetrators were last seen on foot with bags, which they used to load the stolen cash.

They are allegedly armed with AK-47s and also suspected of stealing a silver Suzuki SUV near Hoërskool Riebeeckrand.

Sheppard noted they are not aware of how many perpetrators were involved in the bombing. He continued, no arrests have been made as of yet, however, the vehicle was recovered.

“Please be careful and avoid suspicious situations. Be careful and avoid the mall area for the time being until all investigations have been finalised,” Sheppard stated.

He concluded updates will follow as soon as they have more information.

The police were contacted for comment, however, none has been received. As soon as the comment becomes available, an update will be given.
