Stabbed in cold blood

The Community Policing Forum (CPF) member killed on November 30 has been identified as 31-year-old Luzaine Delroy de Klerk.

The family of Luzaine Delroy de Klerk is honouring his life and legacy following his tragic death on November 30.

Luzaine, who worked as a night guard at Randfontein Secondary School, was fatally stabbed while walking to a local bakery to buy bread and other necessities. He was found behind a nearby supermarket by two boys, who rushed him to the police station, where he passed away. They immediately alerted his family, who then identified him.

Delmaine Jacobs, Luzaine’s younger brother, said Luzaine was born on 6 November 1994 and died at the age of 31 after being stabbed in the heart.

“He was a quiet and humble person and stood up for what he believed in. Most people knew him for his outstanding character. He was truly an older brother to me and very close to his family,” Jacobs said.

He explained that Luzaine had suffered a cerebral injury three years ago, which left him unable to speak, eat or move. As a result, he had to give up his passion for soccer. It was only in early 2025 that he regained his physical abilities, joined the Community Policing Forum, and returned to work as a night guard.

“He never hurt anyone in his life. He was a respectful person who minded his own business. For us, it is a major loss. There are so many sacred memories of my brother,” he said.

A memorial service was held on December 4, followed by his funeral on December 6. Luzaine is survived by his mother, father, stepmother and six siblings. Jacobs expressed the family’s gratitude for the community’s support.

“I am what I am today because of Luzaine,” he concluded.

The Randfontein Herald contacted the police for an update regarding his case; however, no feedback has been received by the time of publishing. As soon as comment becomes available, an update will be given.
