Nine killed, 10 injured in Bekkersdal shooting

Police are searching for 12 suspects following a shooting in Bekkersdal that left nine people dead and 10 injured.

A manhunt was launched for suspects following a deadly shooting in Bekkersdal in the early hours of this morning, December 21.

Police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed the incident occurred shortly before 01:00 at Tambo Section.

Reports indicate that 12 suspects opened fire inside a tavern before continuing to shoot while fleeing the scene.

Nine people were killed and 10 others were injured and taken for medical treatment.

The Gauteng Serious and Violent Crime Investigations Unit, together with the Crime Detection Tracing Unit, has launched a manhunt for the suspects, who were reportedly travelling in a white minibus and a silver sedan.

“The police have mobilised all necessary resources, including Forensic Crime Scene Management and Crime Intelligence. The motive for the shooting will be determined through investigation,” said Sibeko.

She urged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or submit a tip-off via the MySAPS app.
