Student abducted and assaulted in Greenhills

CPF urges vigilance after a female student was allegedly abducted and assaulted.

The Community Policing Forum (CPF) has warned residents to remain vigilant following an abduction and assault of a female student, who was later dropped off in a different location.

CPF chairperson Ruan Sheppard said the victim has been confirmed to be 19 years old. She remembers walking down Arend Drive heading towards Lazar Avenue on Monday, January 19, when a bag was pulled over her head, and she was also hit over the head.

She woke up at the corner of Steenbok and Rietbok Road in Greenhills, where she was dumped. She was assaulted and sustained wounds from a knife.

The victim was later found by a community member and taken to her home. A CPF patroller then assisted her in opening a case with the police and transported her to a medical clinic for treatment.

The timeframe of the attack is believed to be between 10:30 and 12:30, when the victim arrived home.

Sheppard stated the victim believes there were three perpetrators, and they were speaking Zulu. The make of the vehicle is still unknown.

No arrests have been made, and the perpetrators are still at large. Sheppard asked residents of the area to check their cameras for anything out of place.

He urged residents to take extra precautions and appealed to the community to remain alert.

Safety advice from the CPF:

• Be vigilant and aware of your surroundings at all times
• Avoid walking alone. Where possible, walk in groups, especially with fellow students or people heading in the same direction
• In life-threatening situations, prioritise personal safety. Handing over valuables may reduce the risk of serious harm

Sheppard added that once the location of the alleged abduction and the drop-off point have been confirmed, the CPF will request any available CCTV or video footage.

“We will attempt to establish the most likely route used between the two points, as well as the times involved, to assist the investigation,” he said.
