Four of five vehicles stolen in Randfontein recovered

Four of the five vehicles stolen from a Randfontein dealership have been recovered after tracking technology helped lead recovery efforts across Gauteng.

Four of the five vehicles stolen from a Randfontein dealership on January 16 have been recovered, following co-ordinated recovery efforts involving crime-fighting stakeholders.

Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson Ruan Sheppard confirmed that the vehicles taken during the incident included a Toyota Fortuner, a Volkswagen GTI, a Toyota Hilux and two Toyota Quantums.

According to Sheppard, both Toyota Quantums were recovered — one in Boksburg and the other in Diepkloof — while the Toyota Hilux was found in Moroka, Soweto. The Toyota Fortuner has also since been recovered.

Sheppard said the recoveries were made possible after it was established that the vehicles were fitted with tracking devices, which were activated to assist in locating them.

The Volkswagen GTI, registration number DB 69 XF GP, remains outstanding.

While no further details surrounding the circumstances of the theft have been confirmed, Sheppard thanked those involved in the recovery operation.

“Thank you to the various stakeholders across the Civilian Crime Intelligence Network who reacted swiftly to help recover these vehicles,” he said.

Investigations into the whereabouts of the GTI are ongoing.
