Ten suspects in custody after West Rand Hawks seize high-value narcotics in Ferndale.

Members of the West Rand Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team arrested 10 suspects, aged between 25 and 50, on March 26, in Johannesburg, for dealing in and manufacturing drugs.

The arrests followed information about a consignment of narcotics moved from a courier company in Douglasdale to a premises in Ferndale, Johannesburg.

According to Gauteng provincial police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, the Hawks, working together with the West Rand K9 unit, acted on the tip and visited the premises.

“Upon arrival at the premises, police found suspects offloading boxes from a vehicle. When the suspects saw the police, they tried to flee but were arrested. A further search of the premises uncovered six more suspects hiding inside the rooms. During the raid, police discovered various cannabis products with an estimated value of more than R5 million,” Sibeko said.

The 10 suspects are expected to appear before the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, March 30.

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the West Rand Hawks to combat organised crime and drug trafficking, both within the West Rand and in neighbouring areas such as Johannesburg.
