Multi-agency roadblock leads to a dozen arrests across West Rand

A joint law enforcement operation across the West Rand has led to 12 arrests for immigration and drug-related offences.

Twelve arrests were made during a recent multidisciplinary roadblock operation conducted on major roads in the West Rand District.

Acting provincial commissioner of Gauteng, Major General Mbuso Khumalo, together with the West Rand District commissioner, Major General Lorraine Challen, led the joint operation which brought together various stakeholders, including Home Affairs, Gauteng Traffic Police, private security and Community Policing Forums.

According to Challen, six suspects were arrested for being in the country illegally, while a further six were arrested for being in possession of drugs.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and compliance with the law following the Easter holiday period across Gauteng.

Khumalo also urged residents and visitors to act responsibly, particularly during long weekends, noting that these are periods when road accidents typically increase.

He appealed to communities to work with law enforcement by reporting criminal activities and ensuring celebrations are conducted within the confines of the law, adding that everyone has a role to play in ensuring a safe and peaceful Easter period in Gauteng.
