Three nabbed in Randfontein for possession of unlicensed gun

Randfontein and the broader West Rand saw a strong police crackdown as the West Rand Flying Squad (WRFS) carried out five successful operations between April 14 and 18, including drug busts, firearm seizures and the recovery of a stolen vehicle worth nearly R1m.
WRFS spokesperson Karen du Plessis confirmed the series of arrests and recoveries during this period.
On April 14, officers stopped a suspicious vehicle in Krugersdorp and arrested the driver for possession of suspected stolen property. A motorcycle helmet valued at R2 460 was recovered.

In Randfontein on the same day, three suspects were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
“We received information and arrested suspects in possession of it, as well as a generator and other chemicals. The total value is around R20 500. During the incident, one suspect sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital for treatment,” she said.

On April 18, during a stop-and-search operation at the Krugersdorp taxi rank, officers arrested a suspect for possession of drugs after he was found with three and three-quarters Mandrax tablets.
Later that day, another suspect was arrested in Kagiso during a stop-and-search operation after being found with 12 bags of crystal meth valued at R3 612.
Du Plessis added that on the evening of April 18, police recovered a stolen Ford Everest worth R960 000, which was found abandoned in Soweto.
