Bail delayed in high-profile murder, kidnapping case
One accused in the high-profile George and Benns murder and kidnapping case will remain behind bars, while the minor accused remains in a place of safety after their bail application was postponed to May 15.
The bail application in the high-profile murder and kidnapping case involving Ashley George and Faizel Benns has been postponed to May 15, as court proceedings continue.
The accused appeared briefly in court last Friday, where the matter was postponed to allow both the prosecution and defence additional time to prepare. The postponement means the adult (18) accused will remain in custody, while the minor accused (15) remains in a place of safety until the next hearing date, when arguments for and against bail are expected to be heard.

According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) communications officer Magaboke Mohlatole, the two accused are facing charges of murder and kidnapping following the alleged fatal assault of George and Benns. The state believes the incident is gang-related and alleges it took place at the Dumping Site informal settlement in Toekomsrus.

The case has attracted significant attention from the local community, with many residents closely following developments as the legal process unfolds. Details surrounding the charges have not yet been fully ventilated in court, as proceedings are still in the early stages.
Authorities have urged the public to allow the legal process to take its course while ensuring justice is served for the victims.
Further developments are expected following the bail hearing scheduled for Friday.
