Cleaning campaign making a change at Riebeeck Lake

The municipality joined hands with local stakeholders to clean Riebeeck Lake.

Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) together with Kardia House International recently embarked on a cleaning campaign at Riebeeck Lake.

According to Kardia House marketer Candace Holmes, the campaign was especially important for learners.

“It is important for Kardia to teach the children from an early age to keep their environment neat and clean. It is especially important for them to keep the lake clean as their school is adjacent to the lake and regularly uses part of the land to practice football,” she mentioned.

Assistant manager of Environmental Management at RWCLM, Gladys Mahlango also spoke to the learners about the importance of conserving the environment. The municipal department further elaborated that October 7 to 11 was National Invasive Species and therefore they plan on cutting all of the invasive tree species down and removing the excess.

Ward 6 councillor Sonja Swanepoel also attended the event to ensure that all of the rubbish was removed from the premises and even helped her team cut down a few trees.
