Hoërskool Westonaria High School delivered a dominant all-round performance against Hoërskool Jan Viljoen High School in a thrilling day of schoolboy football, securing victories in all three major fixtures.

Westonaria’s U15 side set the tone early with a confident 2–0 victory, displaying solid teamwork and composure in front of goal. The U17 team followed with another impressive 2–0 win, maintaining control throughout the match and completing the clean sweep in the junior divisions.

The first-team clash, however, proved to be the highlight of the day, providing both excitement and drama. Westonaria wasted no time asserting themselves, opening the scoring within the first few minutes of the game. Their early dominance continued when they doubled their lead from a corner, with a well-placed header finding the back of the net.

Jan Viljoen responded with determination and managed to pull a goal back through a well-taken free kick from the edge of the 16-metre box, reducing the deficit to 2–1.

Tensions escalated shortly afterwards, with the incident involving spectators, some players and members of both coaching staffs. The referee was forced to halt proceedings for approximately 20 minutes to restore order. Once calm had been re-established, play resumed, with Westonaria taking a 2–1 lead into half-time.

In the second half, Jan Viljoen fought valiantly in search of an equaliser, applying pressure and showing resilience. Westonaria, however, eventually sealed the result with a superb long-range strike from outside the box, extending their lead and putting the game beyond reach.

The match ended 3–1 in favour of Westonaria, capping off a successful outing for the school and highlighting its strength across all age groups.

Westonaria captain David Molebatsi said after the game that he was proud of his team’s performance and pleased that they were able to see out the game with a win.

Westonaria attacking player Akhona Soketi added, “It was disappointing having the game paused in the manner that it was because of ill discipline, but all in all we are happy with the win.”
