Construction of new homes and supporting infrastructure is progressing at the AffriVillage–Droogeheuwel Mega Projects in Rand West City, with the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements providing an update during a recent media site visit.

The development includes new housing, a water reservoir, the Western Pump Station and an electrical switching station, all aimed at supporting current and future residents.

During the visit, Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements Tasneem Motara said the project forms part of the department’s efforts to develop integrated human settlements that provide residents with access to housing, basic services and economic opportunities.

Among the major infrastructure projects under way is a new water reservoir, which is expected to improve water storage capacity and supply reliability in the area. The Western Pump Station will strengthen water distribution, while the electrical switching station will support the growing demand created by existing and future housing developments.

Construction of housing units is also continuing as part of the department’s programme to reduce the housing backlog and provide qualifying beneficiaries with access to permanent homes.

Motara said the project extends beyond housing delivery, with investment in essential infrastructure intended to support sustainable, long-term community development.

As work continues, the AffriVillage–Droogeheuwel Mega Projects remain one of several large-scale human settlements developments under way in Gauteng, combining housing with the infrastructure needed to support future growth.
