Residents warned to prepare for a five-day water outage

Expect water supply interruptions due to maintenance work at the Greenhills reservoir.

Rand West City Local Municipality confirmed a planned water outage from January 11 due to maintenance work at the Greenhills reservoir.

Municipal spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa said the water supply will thus be interrupted for five days.

“Maintenance work will be conducted, including replacing two faulty valves and a new motor and pump.”

The municipality expects the water supply in most affected areas to be restored by January 15.

The following areas will be affected:
Greenhills Ext 3 and 5, Homelake, specific portions of Randfontein, Helikonpark, Culemborgpark, Eikepark, Randgate, Randpoort, Afri Village, OR Tambo, Jabulani, Robinpark, West Porges, Village Square Mall, Tambotie Mall, Robinson Hospital, Lenmed Hospital, Bhongweni, Tiger Milling, Continental and Albany.

“We have formally communicated with Rand Water to request the suspension of the main water supply to the reservoir, effective January 8 at noon. This measure is intended to reduce the current water level, which is at 90% capacity, thereby facilitating necessary repairs on time,” the statement read.

Furthermore, the municipality assured the provision of water tankers to assist affected areas. There will be five water tankers stationed at different locations from January 10 to January 14.

One water tanker will be stationed at Tambotie Mall to serve Helikonpark, Culemborgpark, Eikepark, Randgate and Randpoort. Another tanker will be stationed at Village Square Mall to serve Randfontein and West Porges. The third tanker will be located between Robinson Hospital, Lenmed Hospital and Bhongweni. The next tanker will be available between OR Tambo and Dan Thlome. The last tanker will be located between Afri Village, Baipei and Jabulani.

They also advised residents to boil water before using it and to store enough water for the maintenance period.
